 Previous Minutes

These were not presented as they have been mislaid.

 Chairman’s address

Dickie said that we had battled through the season despite losing 2 teams. He thanked Fred for a great Presentation night at the Forgehammer club. There   will be 10 sides, (at present) for the coming season.

 Treasurer’s report

£647 in the account at present so we seem to have found a good level regarding funds as the previous £2k to £3k was unreasonable. Around £50 to come out  of the balance for playing cards.

We were very lucky that the engraving on the trophies was done for free saving us approximately £100.

Evelyn asked whether documents could be sent to Captains and Vice Captains to print out themselves but it was felt that not all the teams had the ability to  print. There would be no real saving as the stationary outlay was only £5. Peter said that we will look to set up a WhatsApp group for the league to   enhance our communication channels.

 Secretary’s report

Keri said there wasn’t much more to add that hadn’t been said already except to say that it was sad to see 2 teams drop out during the season but great to   see a new team, the Waterloo, is joining. RAFA club has changed its name to Forgehammer but the venue is the same.

Keri is yet to hear from Kevin regarding Pontnewydd WMC re-joining.

The Management Committee resigned and were immediately re-elected after being proposed to continue by Les and seconded by Fred. Nora thanked the  Officers for their work during the season.

 Trophies and money

People were pleased with the trophies this year and they were generally happy with the trophy/money split.

 Rescheduling Competitions

Team meetings will revert to Mondays at 7pm.

Gary Jones had, at the Captain’s meeting, said that he would like to see the Singles, Pairs and Mixed Pairs played at the end of the season as some teams   went 2 or 3 weeks in a row without games due to byes.. This was, after discussion, thought to be not needed as if there are 10 teams, there would be no Byes.

There was a discussion, started by Gary Jones about playing the competitions at the end This led to Gary Jones saying that he didn’t enter the singles as it   was a 6 card game not a 5 card one as this is more skilful in his opinion.

There was then a vote but there was confusion as to whether the vote had been about playing all the comps at the end of the season or playing 5 card crib in  singles competition. A counter proposal by Keri, seconded by Kevin, was that we kept the competitions be played during the season as usual, keeping the   6 card singles comp. but also have a separate 5 card competition at the end of the season for those who wish to play as many have never played this format.  This vote passed. The Committee will implement this

As many teams play friendlies during the off-season, the officers also agreed to try to formalise this in some way to extend the season.

Les suggested we have a ‘Captains and Vice-captains competition as they do in darts. It was agreed that it will be organized towards the end of the season and agreed that teams can nominate someone else from their team if they  are not available.

The usual rues will be applied for the current singles competition (ie 6 cards, 2 in the box) but for the new 5 card competition at the end of the season it will  be 5 cards, with 1 put in the box and 2 cards from the deal.

Meeting closed.
